As I've said, the hardest part of planning my route was arranging it so that wherever I stayed for a night there would be an ashiatsu therapist within easy reach. I knew I wanted to get as far west as possible, but not so far that I had no time to relax and enjoy the ride. When I realized that Colorado was the likely turning around point, the planning got easier, and with the assistance of the ashiatsu web site and its directory of therapists, I was able to plot a course that nearly accomplished my objective. There are only two out of 38 days when I won't have access to an ashiatsu therapist.
The trip routing takes me west from Maine, through New Hampshire and Vermont, across northern New York State, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana, through Illinois, across Iowa and Nebraska, and then straight into Boulder, Colorado. From Boulder I take a slightly northerly route to Steamboat Springs and then down to Grand Junction, the most westerly point of the trip. From there I return to Boulder, then begin my homeward trek across Kansas, southern Missouri, and Tennessee, on through North Carolina, get a quick glimpse of the Atlantic Ocean as I reach Newport News, Virginia, proceed on to Washington, DC, and then a few more stops in Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New Hampshire before finally returning to my starting point in Maine on August 7th.
